Google Updates Glass Developer Policies, Bans Porn, Gambling And Violence
A few days ago the first porn application for Glass was revealed to the public. To be honest the project was doomed from the start even though Google has not provided a complete and detailed developer guide and policy which explicitly forbid such creations.
We are talking here about a recent release by MiKandi, an adult dedicated application store that has managed to slip some of its creations in the Android echo-system. The app lets user download then view photos and videos captured using the futuristic device. This way Mikandi hoped to connect Google Glass owners while offering them a very popular first-person point of view experience.
After the release it seems that the company must change its approach when it come to Google’s developer policies. Last week the search engine company created another section of its developer policies for Glass that explicitly forbids distributing adult material.
“Our policies make it clear that Glass does not allow Glassware content that contains nudity, graphic sex acts, or sexually explicit material. Any Glassware that violates this policy will be blocked from appearing on Glass,” according to a Google employee. Google went deeper than this and also mentions child porn, violence, racism as well as online gambling. It now resembles in many ways with the Adsense program policies.
What is quite interesting that the app homepage of the newly released app got more than ten thousand hits since the official announcement according to MiKandi Chief Executive Officer. The exec also stated in a blog post that he is very upset with Google’s move to change the rules of the game after his work was completed.
“Although the app is still live and people are using it, at this point we must make changes to the app in order to comply with the new policies. Expect to see changes to the application tomorrow,” Adams said in a blog post.
We are not surprised as this is not the first time an adult based company goes head to head with tech and search engine titans.
On the other hand we must take into account that Glass is a new product and many folks are trying to discover that killer feature that will probably make them buy and use it while the search engine giant works hard in keeping a clean sheet reputation before the public release.
