XE16 GlassVoice.apk Teardown Reveals That Glass Might Be Headed To Japan, Unused Voice Commands

Currently Google Glass is only available for US residents and we’ve already reported that European release date might be years away, so we believed that’s also the case for the other countries. Fortunately a redditor begs to differ as he’s found Japanese translations on the GlassVoice.apk files that came with XE16.

It’s well known that Japanese people are more tech savvy than others and we believe Google wants to take advantage of this and create more awareness for their device.

Unfortunately nothing is very clear, but they must have a reason to translate the voice actions to Japanese. Considering this has come with XE16, it means they are preparing Glass for Japanese users and they probably started testing it with a limited number of users.

Along with the translations, the apk also contains voice actions that are currently unused, like turn the flashlight off, capture a panorama, remember where I am, undo my last action, or go back. At the end of this article you can view the two files containing all voice actions in English and Japanese. There are some voice commands that haven’t been used yet and they might be used by Google internally on a newer version of Google Glass. It could even be the customer edition we’ve been waiting for.

We’re contacting Google right now for an official statement and hopefully we will be able to find out more about the new voice commands and Japanese translations. We are going to update this article once Google replies.
